On Tuesday, October 6, the Regional Cooperation Center under the university’s Anchor Project Group held the '5th Sustainable Regional Innovation Conference' at Lumen Hall in Veritas Hall (Central Library). About 50 participants, including officials from Bucheon City, local labor organizations, universities, and research institutions, attended the event.

Held under the theme of 'For a Bucheon City Where Workers Can Flourish Sustainably,' the conference discussed various measures to protect the rights and interests of vulnerable workers and improve working environments. In his keynote speech, Professor Heung-jun Jung of the Department of Business Administration at Seoul National University of Science and Technology highlighted the difficulties faced by platform workers, freelancers, and those in workplaces with fewer than five employees, emphasizing the need for local-level labor policies.

In the subsequent presentations and discussions, concrete policy measures were proposed, including the establishment of a dedicated labor policy department, welfare support for workers in small businesses, and strengthening safety in micro-enterprises. The panel discussion, chaired by Professor Hee-ju Shin of the university's Department of Sociology and the Research Institute for Sustainable Society, focused on intergovernmental cooperation and ways to strengthen regional labor administration.

Jun-young La, Director of the university's Research Institute for Sustainable Society, stated that taking this conference as an opportunity, the university will treat labor issues as a key task of regional innovation and continue research cooperation with Bucheon City and local labor organizations.
