Professor Lee Chang-bong of the Department of English Language and Literature has published an English-language book titled『Decoding Korea: From Potential to Blossoming』, which explores Korean society and culture from a linguistic perspective.
The book covers various characteristics of Korean society and culture, including concepts such as *jeong* (affection/bond), *nunchi* (situational awareness/social intuition), *han* (deep-seated sorrow/resentment) and *heung* (joy/exuberance), as well as relationship culture, education, the "ppalli-ppalli" (hurry-hurry) culture, Chaebols and the Miracle on the Han River, K-food, and the Korean Wave. Rather than merely introducing surface-level cultural phenomena, the book examines the underlying historical, social, and cultural contexts—such as language, relationships, emotions, and values—to help readers understand the mindset and communication styles of the Korean people.
This book draws upon Professor Lee’s extensive experience in researching and teaching Korean language and culture. It is largely based on the content of his course, "Korean Culture and Global Business," taught at the university. Each chapter includes discussion topics and classroom activities, making the book suitable not only for international readers but also for use in educational settings focused on Korean culture and language.
