From May 5 (Tue) to 6 (Wed), the 「ART & MEDIA CONVERGENCE MASTER SERIES 2026」 Master Class, organized by the Department of Art & Media Convergence, was held at the Conference Hall (K366) in Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan Hall of our university.

This event was prepared as part of a program co-hosted by the Department of Art & Media Convergence of The Catholic University of Korea and the Humanities City Project Group. It aimed to provide students with international-level arts education experiences by directly inviting artists active on the global stage.

For this Master Class, tenor Long Long, who is active in world-leading opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera and Berlin Staatsoper, Professor Paul Weigold, Dean of the Opera Department at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, and Professor Hyun-ju Yun, a Mezzo-Soprano and Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, were invited. Along with undergraduate and graduate students from the Department of Art & Media Convergence at The Catholic University of Korea, vocal music students from across the country, including △Hanyang University △Sejong University △Chung-Ang University △Dankook University △Hansei University △Jeonbuk National University △Changwon National University △Yeungnam University, attended, with over 80 students filling the seats over the two days.

Long Long demonstrated musical approaches required on the global stage, including natural legato based on the flow of breath, stable resonance formation in high notes, phrasing combining language and emotion, and gaze control on stage. Visiting Korea immediately after finishing his performance as Rodolfo in La Bohème at the New York Metropolitan Opera, he emphasized, "A good voice is not simply a loud sound, but is completed when one can contain their emotions and sincerity within the music." As this was his first visit to Korea, it was an even more special time for the students.

Professor Paul Weigold led classes centered on opera ensembles, focusing on training required in actual opera production sites, such as musical expressions of relationships between characters and drama in operas, breathing and timing in ensembles, and movement and gaze control on stage. Professor Hyun-ju Yun left a deep impression on the students with delicate, customized guidance, approaching each student differently regarding breathing, pronunciation, and emotional expression according to their individual status.

Students who participated in this program experienced various artistic approaches through the three masters with different musical backgrounds and educational philosophies, creating an opportunity to contemplate their own musical worlds more deeply. Furthermore, they expressed that by closely encountering the actual experiences and musical attitudes of artists active on the global stage, they gained new motivation and inspiration for their future careers and artistic directions.
