“Learning about Carbon Neutrality, Thinking about the Responsibility of the Community”

The College Management Team of our university held the ‘2026 Humanities Spring Special Lecture’ at the Concert Hall (Grand Auditorium)(CH) on May 6 (Wed).

This special lecture was conducted as a large-scale event with approximately 1,000 students from Humanities 1 and Humanities 2 participating. It was prepared so that students could reflect on the meaning of the climate crisis and carbon neutrality from the perspective of humans and the community.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Jeong-ho Wi of the Department of Energy and Environmental Engineering, who has been researching the field of renewable energy. Professor Wi holds achievements of about 60 SCIE-level international papers and 10 patents, and has been named on the list of the world's top 2% researchers selected by Elsevier and Stanford University.

In the lecture, Professor Wi emphasized, “The climate crisis and carbon neutrality are the most important topics of our time,” and highlighted that carbon neutrality is a task that all of humanity must take responsibility for beyond a simple scientific issue. He followed by explaining that to realize carbon neutrality, changes in social structure and active practice by individuals must occur together.

In the Q&A session after the lecture, questions from students surrounding environmental issues, future energy, and a sustainable society were exchanged, broadening the meaning of the special lecture. Beyond examining the concept of carbon neutrality and the necessity of responding to the climate crisis, it was a time to think about environmental issues in connection with the students' daily lives.

Tae-hee Lee (Class of '26, Department of Public Administration), who participated in the special lecture, stated, “Through this spring special lecture, I felt once again that the climate crisis is an important task that our society must solve together.” He added his impression, “Keeping in mind the professor's words that small individual practices can gather to make big changes, I want to strive to practice carbon neutrality in my daily life.”
