Pastoral Fund of the Archdiocese of Seoul, 100 million won in scholarships for North Korean defector

The school received 100 million won in scholarship funds for North Korean refugee students from the Seoul Metropolitan Government Private Tree Fund.


The scholarship fund delivery ceremony was held at the Seoul Archdiocese of Myeong-dong, Seoul on the 11th (Wednesday), and Park Shin-eon, chairman of the Seoul Archdiocese's Private Tree Fund, delivered the scholarship fund to Catholic University President Choi Jun-kyu.


The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Private Tree Fund has provided 100 million won in scholarships every year for North Korean defectors since 2018, and has donated a total of 900 million won to Catholic University so far this year.


The Catholic University of Korea has been running a scholarship project for North Korean defectors since 2017 to help North Korean defectors settle in a stable manner and to cultivate church leaders in South Korea after reunification. In addition to economic support such as tuition, living expenses, and dormitory expenses, it also provides customized support programs for learning, research, career, and life. Over the past nine years, about 570 students from the Catholic University of Korea have received scholarships
