The Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine (CUK) was elected as an "Academic Institutional Member" at the 2026 General Assembly of the National Academy of Medicine of Korea (NAMOK) held on January 29th.
Background of NAMOK
Founded in 2004 by leading scholars in the field of medicine and related professional sectors to contribute to medical advancement and public health, NAMOK has been recognized as a statutory body under the Medical Service Act since 2016, alongside the Korean Medical Association.
Significance of the Election
CUK was elected as an institutional member in recognition of its educational excellence and its outstanding record in academic and research activities. As a member, the college will now hold the authority to participate in various major decision-making processes, including academic activities and policy establishment within NAMOK.
The "Academic Institutional Member" system was recently introduced by NAMOK to further strengthen academic cooperation and expand its scope of activities, granting membership only after a rigorous verification process.
Statements from the Leadership
Dean Lee Dong-gun, who received the membership certificate on behalf of the College of Medicine, shared his thoughts:
"This is deeply meaningful as it officially recognizes our university's prestige and our ability to contribute to the advancement of domestic medicine alongside NAMOK. We will continue to make active efforts to ensure that our talented and outstanding faculty members can participate as full members of NAMOK and engage in even more impactful activities."
