On Saturday, February 7th, the 3rd Catholic University of Korea (CUK) ‘Rice of Love’ volunteer event was held throughout the Yeokgok-dong area in Bucheon.
A total of 86 participants, including University President Father Choi Jun-kyu, faculty, staff, and students, joined the initiative to extend a helping hand to local neighbors.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Chunui Social Welfare Center and supported by Peacemakers. Despite the freezing temperatures reaching -11°C, volunteers delivered essential goods—including 74 bags of 4kg rice, rice cake (tteok), and solid ox-bone soup stock—to underprivileged households in the community.
Kang Bu-seong (Dept. of Media Technology & Content, '25), a student participant, shared his experience: "It was freezing cold, but it was incredibly meaningful to provide even a small amount of help to our neighbors. I think the warmth we shared on-site will stay with me for a long time."
Based on its educational philosophy of Truth, Love, and Service, the Catholic University of Korea carries out regular volunteer activities to contribute to the local community. Since the launch of the ‘Caritas Volunteer Group’ in 2015, the university has consistently engaged in community-based social contribution efforts, such as distributing coal briquettes, providing academic support for youth, and organizing clothing drives.
