The Korean History Department conducts an academic field trip every semester. On the first day of this fall academic field trip, the group explored sites in the Seoul area, including the Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine and Seodaemun Prison. On the second day, they visited locations in the Gyeonggi area, such as Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Yungneung & Geolleung Royal Tombs.
At the first destination, the Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine (Persecution of 1866), Father Stephen Baek Sang-ryul, the assistant pastor of Haengju Catholic Church and a master's graduate of the Korean History Department, explained the historical significance.
Professor Ki Gyeong-ryang, who participated in the trip, shared his thoughts, saying, "It was a meaningful time to learn about both the Catholic faith and history." The Korean History Department plans to continue its academic field trips to broaden historical perspectives through field-based learning.
