Academic Exchange with the School of Arts, Shandong University (Weihai, China) and Launch Ceremony of the Chinese Alumni Association Held

On Saturday, July 5, an academic exchange event and discussion on future collaboration between The Catholic University of Korea and the School of Arts at Shandong University (Weihai) took place in Weihai, China. The academic exchange was held at the music hall of the School of Arts, while the collaboration discussion took place in the School’s conference room.

The event began with an opening address by Professor Zhang Jian, Dean of the School of Arts at Shandong University, followed by a congratulatory speech by Professor Lim Hak-soon, Dean of the Graduate School of Songsim, The Catholic University of Korea. A celebratory performance was held, followed by academic presentations and a general discussion session.

Presentations included:

• Professor Zhang Yani (Graduate School of Arts, Shandong University), “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Dance Containing Knowledge, Life, and Aesthetics”
  
  

• Master’s student Wan Manli (Design Studies, Shandong University), “Preservation of Traditional Shandong Folk House Architecture from a Glocalization Perspective”
  
  

• Dr. Chen Xian (Faculty of Industrial Studies, Nanjing University of Media / Doctorate from The Catholic University of Korea), “Immersive Theater for the Future: A Qualitative Case Study of Spatial Characteristics Based on Hermann Schmitz’s Spatial Theory”
  
  

• Professor Kim Young-joo (Department of Performing Arts & Culture, The Catholic University of Korea), “A Culturally Convergent Approach to Realizing the Social Value of Art: Korea’s Arts Healing Policy”

During the comprehensive discussion, professors and graduate students from both institutions engaged in an in-depth dialogue under the theme “Future Strategies of Cultural Convergence in the Glocal Era.” Representing The Catholic University of Korea were Professors Lee Jin-woo, Kim In-seol, and Cho Young-in from the Department of Performing Arts & Culture. Representing Shandong University were Professor Zhang Yani and master’s students Pan Wanli and Zhu Zheng.

Following this, a launch ceremony for The Catholic University of Korea's Chinese Alumni Association was held at the Yulhae Hall of the Weihai University Academic Center in celebration of the university’s 170th anniversary. The ceremony was organized by the Chinese Alumni Association Preparatory Committee, in collaboration with the Songsim Campus General Alumni Association and the Graduate School.

The ceremony began with an opening speech by Yoo Han, President of the Chinese Alumni Association, followed by congratulatory remarks from President Choi Joon-kyu of The Catholic University of Korea and Min Maeng-ho, President of the General Alumni Association. The event concluded with an “Evening for Alumni,” a celebratory performance, networking time, presentation of commemorative items, and a group photo session.
