Notice on the Selection of Dongsan Scholarship Recipients for the Second Half of 2026
The selection of recipients for the Dongsan Scholarship for the second half of 2026 is announced as follows. Students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply within the designated period.
1. Overview
- 1) Number of Scholarship Recipients: Several
- 2) Eligibility: North Korean defector (North Korea-born) undergraduate students majoring in science or engineering at a four-year university who are expected to be enrolled in the 2026-2 Semester. (Preference will be given to students majoring in engineering, natural sciences, or agricultural sciences.)
- 3) Application Deadline: Friday, October 2, 2026 (applications must arrive by mail by this date).
- 4) Submission Method: By mail (submitted documents will not be returned).

2. Selection Criteria
- 1) North Korean defector students majoring in science or engineering who demonstrate excellent academic performance and financial need
- 2) Students with a positive attitude and a strong vision for their future
- 3) Students who are under disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion, as of the announcement date are not eligible
3. Scholarship Support
- 1) Educational Support: KRW 8,000,000 per year
- 2) Payment Method: The scholarship will be paid in two installments each year. Continued support for the following semester will be determined based on the student's academic performance in the previous semester.
- 3) The scholarship will be suspended and revoked if the recipient withdraws, is expelled, or takes a leave of absence before completing their studies.
4. Required Documents
- 1) Scholarship application form and personal statement (one copy; applicant must complete the form and attach a photo)
- 2) One letter of recommendation from the department chair

※ At The Catholic University of Korea, students may submit a Certificate of Scholarship Benefits in place of the university scholarship office confirmation letter.
- 4) One official academic transcript including grades for the 2026 First Semester
- 5) One certificate of enrollment
5. Selection Schedule
- 1) Interview Candidates Announced: Interview schedule will be notified individually after the document screening.
- 2) Final Selection: Within seven days after the interview
- 3) Scholarship Award Ceremony: Scheduled for October 2026
