  • An exceptional clinical trial result was announced, which is expected to change the existing paradigm on the antiplatelet treatment after the stent procedure that expands the clogged blood vessel of a patient with acute myocardial infarction.

The head of the Cardio-cerebrovascular Center of the Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Professor Chang Ki-yuk (corresponding author), the Catholic University of Korea Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital's cardiology Professor Kim, Chan-joon (lead author) and Professor Park, Man-won (lead author) of The Catholic University of Korea Daejeon St. Mary's Hospital conducted the comparative study on the antiplatelet agents of patients with acute myocardial infarction who received the coronary artery stent. They found out that the low-intensity dual antiplatelet therapy reduces the risk of bleeding while not increasing the risk of ischemia and that it eventually lowers the risk of the incidence of cardiovascular events and ischemia by 45%.

This study is expected to create a significant change in the domestic and international medical world for its proposal of a new treatment guideline for myocardial infarction patients at home and abroad.
