  • New Health Care Biomaterial Developed to Enhance Life of Humanity

Professor of biotechnology Park Yong-il carried out extracting, separating, refining, and analyzing of structures of natural substances (polysaccharide, oligosaccharide, and other carbohydrate substances, flavonoid, and Polyphenolic compounds, etc.) as well as phytonutrients evaluation using cells (in vitro) of diverse diseases and animal models for human diseases (in vivo) to study new health care bio materials such as △natural substance remedies △health functional food materials △functional make-up materials, etc. He is also actively collaborating with research institutes both domestic and international, as well as taking part in research with universities and industries.

Professor Park who specializes in developing carbohydrate-based health functional materials, has many achievements with numerous theses published in SCI, and application and approval of patents, as well as technology transfers.

Moreover, Professor Park’s research team is also carrying out a study on phytochemical compounds and derivatives. Also related, the team has been chosen for The Next Generation BioGreen 21 Program many years in a row and is working on research for these compounds. In particular, the team received funding of 450 million won and 600 million won every year for three years by a company to carry out research on developing new molecule-target-based cures for metabolic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

Through such abundant research, Professor Park’s research team was able to publish 122 essays in SCI, apply for 70 patents and receive approval for 27, and transfer technology 13 times to related companies. Such efforts by Professor Park has been acknowledged internationally and he was selected as an excelling researcher in Gyeonggido BT and received commendation from the Governor of Gyeonggido (2015, 2018) and also received the certificate of contribution to the development of new drugs (2017) from the Korea Drug Research Association.

Currently at Professor Park’s Bioactive Biomaterials Research Lab, a total of 8 members are conducting research and the team is also collaborating with the University of Chemical Technology in Prague and Slovak Academy of Sciences. And they will continue to strive to develop new biomaterials for healthcare through such collaborations.
