“I will actively participate in reducing the use of disposable materials for a better future.”

CUK’s president, Jongchul Won, participates in the relay movement of reducing the use of disposable materials in daily lives, ‘Disposable Material-zero (zer0) Challenge’, initiated by the Ministry of Environment.

Initiated by Hwajin Han, the secretary of the Ministry of Environment last March, this challenge includes each organization posting a promise to reduce disposable materials on their social media accounts and appointing the next challenger, with the intention of attracting people’s attention and promoting their participation. After being appointed by Sejong University’s president Deokhyo Bae, CUK’s president Jongchul Won is now participating in this challenge, and he appointed Yong-eek Cho, Mayor of Bucheon, and Do-soon Cho, Head of the National Institute of Ecology, as the next challengers.

CUK is determined to set an example as the leading university for carbon neutrality by actively participating in the ‘Disposable Material-zero(zer0) Challenge’. Last December, CUK was awarded a commendation from the Minister of Environment, recognized for its several years of efforts and achievements to implement carbon neutrality, including establishing solar photovoltaic equipment, forest tree species improvement projects, operating the Carbon Neutrality Promotion Committee, etc.

Every member of CUK participates in practicing carbon neutrality for the sustainable earth. The students and faculty members of CUK declared the Code of Conduct for Carbon Neutrality together and are practicing various zero-waste activities, including personal tumblers, turning off the lights in empty lecture rooms, using scratch paper, etc.

CUK’s president, Jongchul Won, said, "We are providing support in various ways so that all students and faculty members of CUK can practice carbon neutrality in daily lives with eco-friendly minds. With this opportunity to participate in the ‘Disposable Material-zero(zer0) Challenge’, I promise to take more active initiatives to achieve 2050 Carbon Neutrality and 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)."
