“Samheung Society Team” from the Catholic University of Korea's Department of Korean History won the grand prize in ""2022 College Student Ambassador for Patriot Ahn Junggeun."" College student ambassador for patriot Ahn Junggeun is a program hosted by Ahn Junggeun Memorial Museum, managed by Mooncademy, and sponsored by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. In this project, teams composed of undergraduate/graduate students in Korean universities who love our history and Patriot Ahn Junggeun accomplish missions together with the Ahn Junggeun Memorial Museum to let more people know about Patriot Ahn Junggeun. This project kicked off on May 28 with a launching ceremony and lasted for around four months until the disbanding ceremony on Sept. 24.

What is ""Samheung Society Team""?

This is Samheung Society Team's second year of work. Our team name, ""Samheung Society,"" was named after the Samheung Society founded by Patriot Ahn Junggeun. The name contains our aspiration to flourish the three factors; Ahn Junggeun as a human, Ahn Junggeun's present and past, and Patriot Ahn Junggeun Memorial Museum as a memory.

There are five members in total.  Team leader Kim Narin (admission in 2019), manager Bae Haeun (admission in 2019), video editor Song Jiwoo (admission in 2020), clerk Lee Jian (admission in 2020), designer Nam Gyungyeon (admission in 2021) have been working as a team, and we are all majoring in Korean History.

The Department of Korean History's ""Samheung Society Team"" won the grand prize in ""2022 College Student Ambassador for Patriot Ahn Junggeun""

In the disbanding ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 24, Samheung Society Team won the ""grand prize."" The award was presented by Hwang Sunwoo, the deputy curator of the Ahn Junggeun Memorial Museum.

In particular, Lee Joohwa, a section chief at Ahn Junggeun Memorial Museum, complimented us by saying, ""There was nothing that called for deduction in Samheung Society Team’s activities.""

Samheung Society Team members’ thoughts about winning

1) Song Jiwoo: I spent more than half of my university life as a student ambassador for Patriot Ahn Junggeun. But every year was new and different. Especially, by working with Samheung Society, I was able to fill in the things I was lacking. Thank you for presenting me with various memories throughout my college life.

2) Kim Narin: While working as a student ambassador, I could understand from the life of Patriot Ahn Junggeun to his sense of values. Plus, I was so happy as I could realize the plans I always wanted to try through these activities.

3) Lee Jian: I learned a lot about Patriot Ahn Junggeun while working as a student ambassador. Also, I got to experience things that aren't easy to try on campus while doing the mission, and it was very helpful for improving myself.

4) Bae Haeun: This term as a student ambassador wasn't easy, but it was more fun than hard. Learning things about Patriot Ahn Junggeun that I didn't know of and holding an event while carrying out missions was meaningful to me. I think we were able to complete the activities wonderfully, thanks to all the team members. I was very lucky to meet amazing team members that showed great teamwork. Good job, guys! Thank you :)

5) Nam Gyungyeon: I worried a lot as it was my first large-scale off-campus activity, but I learned a lot from the work of our members and other teams. I planned our activities by putting in all the effort I could as I was worried a lot. In many cases, I was satisfied with the results. Also, I could learn the importance of taking responsibility while carrying out many missions.

Future plans of Samheung Society Team

We successfully achieved last year’s plan of creating a society in the Department of Korean History of the Catholic University of Korea. And within that society, Samheung Society was created this year. We're not a society only specializing in the works of Patriot Ahn Junggeun yet, but we plan to nurture student ambassadors on campus every year from now on. We are also planning to grow into an independent society when the size gets bigger. If we have a chance, we want to set up a Samheung Society booth during the university festival and proceed with in-person events and more.
