On the morning of the 5th, 158 students, 59 faculty members, and 15 family members of faculty members gathered together with President Won Jongchul for the "11th Caritas Volunteer Group Sharing Briquettes" held in Hakik-dong, Incheon. Eight thousand briquettes carefully prepared through fundraising activities of university members were shared with the underprivileged in the community, such as local seniors living alone and basic livelihood recipients, to share the love.A total of 232 volunteers, including Catholic University students and 64 foreigners, participated in this volunteer work. The youngest volunteer was a 5-year-old child volunteer who participated with the mother.

The volunteer service started with a memorial prayer for the victims of the 1029 disaster. President Won Jongchul said, "Today's volunteer work will strengthen our neighbors to spend the harsh winter with the warmth that CUK shared. And even if there is not much to share, the joy of sharing is great.”An official from Incheon Briquette Bank said, “Briquette services do not seem to be held in these difficult times anymore due to COVID-19, but only the Catholic University of Korea continued to participate in briquette service." He also said, "Thank you for practicing love for neighbors together, and I hope you can finish well without injury and have a meaningful time altogether."In the meantime, the Catholic University of Korea has conducted briquette-sharing volunteer activities twice a year in response to the demand of households using briquettes even after the outbreak of COVID-19. The school founded the “Caritas Volunteers,” consisting of students and faculty in 2015 to practice the philosophy of truth, love, and service and contribute to local communities. The volunteers started with volunteer work at nearby senior centers and have continued their volunteer activities through lunch box delivery to senior citizens living alone, youth academic support activities, local community cleaning service, rice sharing service, etc.
