a zygote of antibody-photo-sensitizer targeting mutant pancreatic cancer cell

As the market grows for the medicine that combines antibody, which seeks out cancer cells, with anticancer drug, a new research has substituted the anticancer drugs with a photo-sensitizer.

The research team led by Professor Gun Na of the biomedical-chemical engineering department revealed that they have developed an antibody-photo-sensitizer zygote to simultaneously activate immunity and apoptosis resulting from oxidation stress, targeting mutant pancreatic cancer cells. This zygote was injected into a model mouse, and the cancer tissue was put under light. The size of the tumor was found to have decreased 5 times compared to the control group. The immunocytes important for anticancer immunity treatment (dendritic cell, T cell, natural killer cell) were found to have increased on average 6 times compared to antibody-only treatment, and 2 times compared to photodynamic treatment, indicating that immunoreactivity has been greatly enhanced.
