Research results establishing indicators of the death risk of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) (which does not have a clear cure at present) were published through Korean medical big data analysis. This is expected to help in judging the risk of COVID-19 patients and increase the effectiveness of treatments based upon it.

A research team including Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital's Hematology Hospital Head Prof. Kim Dong-wook, Hematology Prof. Park Sung-su, Hematology Clinical Instructor Kim Dong-yun, Infectious Diseases Prof. Lee Dong-gun, and Respiratory Medicine Prof. Lee Jong-min performed bio-indicators predicting death in 5,628 Korean COVID-19 patients. The results showed the patients with severe lymphopenia had a chance of death 5.63 times greater than normal patients.
