Photoresponder Design that Finds Cells that Help Fat Accumulation… Efficacy Confirmed Against Obese & Diabetic Mice
Research has been conducted to control the secretion of intestinal hormones that stimulate obesity caused by metabolic diseases (Type 2 Diabetes) with light. The university’s research team led by Professor Na Geon announced that it has developed a targeted photoresponder to remove K cells that secrete GIP, an intestinal hormone that facilitates fat accumulation in obese patients.
※ Photoresponders that generate free radicals upon receiving light are the main material for photodynamic therapy (PDT), which kills target cells with oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
※ GIP (Gastric inhibitory polypeptide): Intestinal hormone secreted in response to the presence of fat and carbohydrates in the duodenum. It is secreted by K cells covering the duodenum.
