Cahongs, the ambassadors of the Catholic University of Korea, met with many high school students through high school visits, presentations, and campus tours, and gathered all the questions that prospective students have asked by now. These questions and their answers are shared below, so if you’re curious about the Catholic University of Korea, now is the perfect time to learn more about it! The Cahongs have provided the most useful questions and answers here, so if you’re hoping to enter the Catholic University of Korean, please read on.

Do all universities that have “Catholic” in their name belong of the same school?

The Catholic University of Korea was founded by the Catholic Education Foundation, which is affiliated with the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul. It’s often confused with other Catholic Universities that have a region in their names, such as Daegu · Incheon · Suwon · Daejeon · Gwangju · Mokpo · Busan. However, those universities were established by the national Catholic dioceses in that region, and they’re different from the Catholic University of Korea.

Please tell us why the Catholic University of Korea is a great school!

Our school is continuously achieving great results in university evaluations. For instance, it placed 12th in Korea for “2018 Reuters Asia Best Innovation Universities,” and 15th in Korea for the “2019 World University Evaluation” by the England global university evaluation organization, QS. In addition, the Catholic University of Korea generously provides support for students’ studies. There are pleasant and wide reading rooms where there is 1 seat for every 3.4 students, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that you can find a place to study. Our university also pays the highest book data purchase cost per student. I’m proud to say that our school earned 2nd place in “number of students per reading seat” and 1st place in “book data purchase cost per person,” based on “Universities seen through rankings (JoongAng Ilbo).” Lastly, there’s a graduate discount given at the national hospitals affiliated with the Catholic University of Korea, and that’s a benefit that is unique to our university.

What are some fun spots or popular places on campus in the Catholic University of Korea?

There are two hills where you can fully experience all four seasons within our school. One is a high hill that’s called “Smurf Hill.” The other one is “Teletubbies Hill,” which got its name from how some spots on the ground are lifted, similarly to that hill in Teletubbies. You can see the falling petals of cherry blossom trees in spring, unique and vibrant greenery in summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and evergreen trees in winter. Since those places are so picturesque, graduates also regard them as photo hot spots. During campus tours, these spots never fail to catch the eye of many visitors. When the weather is good, these are also the best places for outdoor classes, or for students to enjoy study breaks. If you were to make a movie about the “fantasies of university life,” you’d film it here.

What should you keep in mind when you’re preparing for the entrance examination?

I think what the biggest source of stress that people feel while preparing for the entrance examination comes from comparing themselves to other people. Depending on the admission type they choose, everyone will have their own difficulties and obstacles. So, if you focus on yourself in the present moment, striving every day without getting impatient, you’ll eventually reach your goal. When you get too tired or exhausted, take a break by checking out the news on the Catholic University of Korea homepage or learning various information from the SNS that the Cahongs manage!

How can I find out about other things that I’m curious about in regard to the Catholic University of Korea?
