Donation Story – Hyunyangjae Development Fund

We support the juniors so that they can study without regrets.

On 3 PM on October 25 (Fri.), the “Hyunyangjae” Development Fund Delivery Ceremony was held in the office of the head of the University Development Promotion Division.

The delivery ceremony was attended by six donors (Byeongwoo Yoo, Seungjun Ko, Hongjae Kim, Hojun Jeon, Ahnju, Park and Seokjin Oh), University Development Promotion Director Father Jungyu Choi, Jongil Hyun (Accounting), the Hyunyangjae advisory professor, and Student Support Dean Professor Hongmin Lee (Law).

A total of KRW 9 million in development funds has been delivered, all of which will be used as academic incentives for students under the Hyunyangjae system.

All donors of this development fund are from Hyunyangjae, who passed the CPA exam in 2019 (1 person) and 2020 (6 persons). They said they were happy to do so for the development of their alma mater and the students following their footsteps.

Professor Jongil Kim said, "It is meaningful because it is the first time that successful students have donated funds for development," and added, "I hope that this donation will continue as the first step."

Hyunyangjae is a preparatory class for the examination of certified public accountants and tax accountants of the school. Currently, 33 candidates are studying together for their future dreams.

After the delivery ceremony, a brief interview was conducted with Director Byeongwoo Yoo. The content of the interview is as follows.

Q. You donated an academic grant to the Hyunyangjae, and I would like to know why.

A. I donated to support scholarships and create a good study environment for the students so that they can concentrate on their studies. When I joined Hyunyangjae, there were no other supports, so I thought it would be nice to have a lot of support. In the second semester of 2019, I worked hard to improve the inconvenience while serving as the head of Hyunyangjae. We introduced an electronic attendance machine and replaced the old seminar room to relieve the inconvenience of attendance. We are encouraging successful applicants to make donations after seeing the changes in the status quo due to donations from successful applicants. This virtuous cycle of donations will help many students who dream of becoming accountants.

Q. What does Hyunyangjae mean to the donors?

A. For us, Hyunyangjae is a turning point in life. The accountant exam is given once a year, so if you fail, there is a year's wait. You will feel isolated. However, at Hyunyangjae, I was able to meet my colleagues, share concerns, and study together while helping each other. At first, they were all competitors, but they eventually became partners through Hyunyangjae. So I want accountants from Hyunyangjae to unite and lead each other.

Q. Do you have any words for the Catholic University students preparing to become accountants?

A. The accountant exam is like a marathon with a long average length of study, with half the time spent studying in your 20s. So, many people give up or fail because they are tired of running alone. But I would like to tell you that I hope you study without regret and with a mind that you can no longer study on the day of the exam. I hope they will not regret when they look back at the present time in the distant future.
