  • Safety is Our Priority

The name of the company is the first thing to decide in the process of selecting the business item and materializing it. “Commute literally means ‘to go to school’. Our first motto was ‘Let’s do business that provides convenience for students when they go to school.’ Based on that idea, we tried to think about it in different ways. Our conclusion was ‘to provide a commuting service,’ and we directly reflected it to our company name. We are currently offering bicycle and electric kickboard rental services for students at the Catholic University of Korea and citizens in Bucheon.”

The company has just begun to step up, but its aspiration for the future is great. We asked CEO Dae-kwang Kim about the company motto and his vision as CEO. “There is currently a total of five people in our team, and each of them is in charge of representation, planning, accounting, marketing and development.

As we all majored in different subjects, I thought it would be great to make the most of it. The motto of our company and my vision are the same. It is ‘safety.’

More in detail, it means the safety management for customers who use our service. It’s convenient and quick to ride an electronic kickboard or bicycle, but there are risks to it.

Therefore, we always care about safety. For example, when renting a product, we check thoroughly if it works fine, and we explain how to manage the electric kickboard and bicycle in detail. We also provide customers with documents related to safety. For electric kickboards, we also rent helmets for customers.

As I think the level of customer satisfaction and service stability represent our service quality, that’s the part we care about the most.”

    Choice and Focus for Growth

We expected that there have been many difficulties for CEO Kim in running a business and pursuing his studies at the same time, as he founded the company as an undergraduate student.

“I think it’s not really easy to study and manage a business at the same time, so 4 of 5 of our members are running this business after taking a leave of absence from the university. We used to run our business while studying at the same time, but it was too overwhelming to focus on one thing at that time.

I thought that I founded the company after a lot of preparation by participating in diverse entrepreneurship support programs, but once I started running the business, I could feel that the reality is very different from the ideal that I had dreamt of.

I also realized that the perfect business model and plan are not everything. The first business that we had planned required a lot of capital and a high level of technology.

After much consideration together with our team members, I decided to start a business that can be executed immediately, by reducing the size of the business as much as possible.

However, I still don’t think it is always easy, even though I reduced the size of our business. That’s why it’s important to proceed a business according to the situation, after sufficient consideration about the feasibility of the business model that is planned based on the capability of the entrepreneurship team.”

With a big dream and vision, it began as a small business that can be realistically executed immediately, but their expectation for development was noteworthy. “While we are proceeding the Commute business only at the Catholic University of Korea, we are planning to expand the business to many universities in the future.

We are also working with various places to provide the electric kickboards and bicycles required for business expansion.

Our final goal is to grow rapidly based on what we’ve learned in school and to provide better commuting services to many students.

An app will be released soon. We are planning to ensure that customers can use our service more easily through the app, so I hope that many of you use our service in the future!”
